I was asked to do a scene of my kids dentist as a retirement gift. They wanted the younger man and then having him the way he is today looking over the shoulder of his past self. The boy is kind of a mixture of my kids.

I am not sure if some of you know but I have gotten a full time job as a miniature sculptor and painter for Verlinden Productions. I actually bumped into the owner Francois at the hobby shop in Dec while I was there getting some putty for my Darell Scott custom. He was looking for an in house sculptor/painter and me, of course had nothing to do! LOL Anyways, here are four German Pilots I have sculpted and painted for production and I have another 2 that are being photographed now.

I have finished up the Pilot leaving the cockpit and tried to take a better picture of the relaxing one. I just noticed from the pictures that I will need to correct some paint marks on the buckeles on the boots! Wow! Sorry about that!

Well, the shoulder is just about back to normal and I am ready to get back at it full force! While I was out I ended up meeting a really well known modeler and manufacturer of miniatures. Well to make a long story short he was looking for some help and offered me a job! I was really floored he offered me the job and all I can say is that it is a GREAT opportunity for me. I am now working as a sculptor/painter for Verlinden Productions. I have to say I love it and love that I can sit and learn and actually get to sculpt something everyday! I hope that I can continue to improve. Again, still trying to get back into the mode but hope that you all will see improvements in the months to come.

I wanted to let everyone know the reason for my long absence. I had a shoulder problem that ended up with me having to undergo surgery. I am now trying to get it back into productive use and then hopefully back to the bench! Thanks to all for the kind words and thoughts and prayers.

Battle of Culloden vignette

I am excited about this new project. It will me a joint project with my friend Gordy. I have wanted to do this scene for some time but never had the time or the energy to do both the sculpting and the painting, that is where Gordy comes in. He is such a talented sculptor and we thought it would be fun to do this together. This is the first one of three. He will be holding a long weapon and the others will be a standard bearer and an officer.

Here is the start to the project and I hope to keep this post up to speed during the build.

I finished up Billy Bajema's custom. I was able to give it to him and he was very pleased. I did noticed I had omitted an NFL logo on it and then he brought it back to the house for me to correct.

This is going to be a custom for Billy Bajema, TE St Louis Rams. Here you can see some of the different parts that I have used and some of the putty were I have sculpted what I needed. I used AVES to sculpt.

I am in the process of doing another football custom. This one will be of the St Louis Rams TE Billy Bajema. Here is the start of the helmet. I had to free hand the horns and it was a little bit of a challenge but I think it turned out ok. I know on the next one that there are many different things that I will have to do to try and make it better. Anyways here are some pictures.

Box art figure for Thunderbird miniatures

Here is a new figure that I have just finished painting. I was trying to get it finished sooner for Mark but I had several life things happen and I was able to finally wrap it up. It was fun to paint and now that I have finished it up for the box art I will remove it and then place it on a base with more groundwork. I painted it the usual way using all acrylics. I think this was very well done by Anders and it has many possibilities. I may have to get another and see what I can come up with for a conversion.

When I got home today I found a new fine Scale Modeler in the mailbox. Well, I knew it had to have something of mine in it because I do not get it with a subscription. I open up the package and was pleasantly surprised to see on the cover and small picture of one of my figures and a nice little write up in the readers gallery.

Here is the new custom I am working on. This one will be of TE Joe Klopfenstein in his Colorado Buffalo's uniform. Sorry ,I have been slow at posting any new work on the figure. I actually have another one in the works but no pictures yet. Here are a few pictures of the figure and where I am with it. I used some of my sons purple Sculpey for the larger folds. I did this to give me a little more time to work on trying to get the folds to look correct. I have been down and out for some time now with this crazy flu but I did manage to get a little work in before it got the best of me. I have done more to the legs since these pictures but here are a few to show a little work.

Here I have repainted the original head and the helmet. I have painted it the usual method for me, acrylics. The helmet was painted with Tamiya flat white and then 3/4 coats of Future Floor polish.

Something really different for me, football customs

I have seen a few of these and was amazed and the different things these guys were doing so I wanted to try my hand at doing one. I have decided to one of Mark Sanchez, Jets QB during training camp. The figure is 6" tall and made of a hard plastic. Here are some pictures and I will post more later.

Had a nice little mail surprise the other day

I went to the mail box this past Friday and saw that I had received an issue of Fine Scale Modeler. I do not have a subscription so I was wondering why I had received it then I remembered I had submitted a few articles a while back. Well, it turned out it was the one I did on ground work.Thanks to my wife for all the help! It ended up being a 4 page article,I thought it looked pretty cool. I am going to buy another copy and then send it to my collector friend Jack, who purchased the figure in the article, so he can have it to go along with the figure. Here is what it looks like. Here is the start of a new figure. It is Maximus from the movie Gladiator. I am doing this one as a gift for Joe Klopfenstein. He has been really good to my sons and I wanted to just show him how much I appreciated it. He really has impressed them both and they really look up to him,thanks Joe!

Civil War diorama is finally finished

Well, I have finally finished up my diorama. I am really glad to see it finished but at the same time see so many things I could have done. I am pleased to know that I did buckle down and really get it done. I am thankful for my boys giving daddy a chance to work on it while they were out of school. Now, I am just ready to head to Chicago and show it and then get back home with some new ideas! Thanks for looking.

Dio update with a Billy Yank

Here is a Yank that I have done for the dio. I needed to add one so the scene would look complete. I will have one other as well. This one will pair up with the Reb and the rock. It is getting really close so I hope to post the finished version soon.

Here is another figure for the dio. It is now looking like the total will be 9. I had originally wanted to do just 3 then had high hopes of 15 but the base and time only will allow for 9. I have really enjoyed the project and I am learning a lot so I am hopeful that I will do another in the near future.

Here is a new figure that I had to finish up for a collector. It is a 54 mm PIZARRO Mini natures kit of a SS Officer. I had to put my dio on hold for a little to get this one finished but I am now back at the dio. The best part of this figure I believe is the coat. I was pretty happy with it until my wife told me I needed to make it look a little more worn, good thing, she was right! I now think it is one of my better paint jobs, esp for leather.

I have always admired those who could paint or draw. I would gladly give up miniatures if I knew I could do that as well as others. I have been trying to learn and here is what I did at the end of this past year. I painted it in watercolors and pen and ink. I enjoyed it but see so many things that I could have done better if I had know at the time. Anyways, it was a gift for my wife and she likes it.

The Casualty

Here is the first casualty. I wanted to show again some movement and I had previously seen a figure by Bill Horan that was getting shot and I like the angle of the feet so that it was I was shooting, no pun intended, for with this guy.

Here is the first figure from my dio. I wanted to have a figure showing an urgency. I was pretty happy with this guy until I started doing the others. I am thinking that he may become the first casualty and become a lone figure and resculpt another officer later.

The Civil War dio

I have decided to undertake the BIGGEST project in my miniature time. I am going to do an 11-15 figure diorama of the American Civil War. I am thinking the battle will be either the High Water mark or the Angle at Gettysburg. I would have never even thought of taking on anything like this but thanks to the persuading of my friend Mike Blank, thanks Mike, I have decided to give it a go. I have sculpted 3 of the figures so far and have 2 others close. I will post these soon.

painting a Napoleonic in White

I painted this figure back in Jan/Feb. It was for a seminar that I gave in Atlanta. It was painting whites using acrylic's. I really enjoy painting white and this gave me an excuse to paint some purple as well. The figure is a 54 mm Metal Models kit. The kit is a breeze to assemble and paint. I would recommend to anyone to buy a Metal Models kit, you won't be sorry!
